Day To Night Portraits

For my Day To Night project, one of the things that i decided to do was some portrait work and having a theme linked to some of them such as an autumn theme. In this photo on the left i have used the television to set the picture to be autumn themed as i wanted to have a warm like feeling coming from one of my portraits so i decided to get a still frame of an autumn themed background and i edited the photo to make it feel more warmer by changing the saturation of the image. I also used some LEDs in this image to get the right colour to make it more autumn like and warm, to get the image warm like i used a light orange light when setting the LEDs. When i was choosing the clothing i thought of the theme and what colours i may want to use, so i chose a yellow/orange top with some white writing on it, i chose this because the colour kind of reminds you of autumn leaves and it is also a warm colour so it will make the photo seem more welcoming. We have a very happy facial expression because when in a warm environment we would see some very happy faces. Also, having a very happy facial expression shows joy as if she is enjoying the autumn season.
She is looking straight into the camera lens which engages the audience as if she is drawing them in and she is looking at them.
The picture on the right is another portrait with a very warm feeling/look to give off an autumn vibe, but this time i have set my location outside where it is dark-ish as we would expect an autumn season to be quite dark and gloomy. I have used a flash to show the features on her face become more clear as well as the image. We can see her bright big glassy eyes which is another facial feature that shows a load of emotion through the image. Once again we have that beautiful and cheerful smile that brings joy within the image to the audience, it brings joy to everyone because when you look at someone smiling you are bound to smile back at them. I have used the same outfit while taking my first portrait shoot to give off an autumn vibe with the yellow and orange colours. When editing this picture i was playing about with the contrast and different brightness to get the right look for my image and how im going to make the background visible but also the person in the image. Another way i would edit this image is by using Adobe Photoshop and use the burn and light tool to also add some detail into my image to make it more bold, when using the light tool i used it on the eyes to bring them out more and to show more emotion in the face to make the eyes shine more, i also used it on the face to make the skin have a very nice glow. When choosing the filter i thought about the theme and what filter would suit it, so i chose to use a warm filter to bring the image out a bit more because using a warm filter will also match my theme but made the filter sort of drained to also make it like winter and sort of cold to also fit the theme of autumn.

In this portrait i decided on what i would want my background and the type of emotion i would want to have my model to express. My model has a very serious face which could show boredom or seriousness, we can tell that his face is quite serious as we can see the tired eyes and a slightly frowned face and he is looking away from the camera. When choosing the clothing i wanted it to be very dull so i thought of a dull colour which i chose grey and black, and had a matching background which was different shades of grey. I am using emotion in my portrait work to show the different type of people in autumn and how it may affect many people with how they feel. I didn't do that much editing to this picture except of using the burn tool on Adobe Photoshop to make the image more dull. By using the flash on my camera i made a shadow effect to which makes the image a lot more bolder and kind of gives it a little story behind the image because we can see one persons emotion in our view of the image but then we have the shadow behind which could mean there is another person/personality hiding in the shadows. By having a drained look picture has many meanings behind it to certain people which makes the image unique.
